Being a great rhythm guitar player isn’t usually seen as the cool thing but it is one of the most important things to be able to do in a song, even more important than being a great lead player (there, I said it)

Understanding the basics of how fast to strum when you hear the count in and be able to match the style of music is one of the hardest things to do but get it right early on and every piece of music thrown at you will be so much easier!

Work through these sheets one at a time with a metronome until you have mastered each one at multiple tempos and can play each rhythm with ease

Use a relatively thin/soft pick and don’t strum too hard

Strum from your elbow and keep your wrist relaxed!

Aim for smooth chord transitions, especially as the rhythms get more complicated and the tempo increases

Crotchets & Quavers

Start here if you’re new to rhythms

Tied quavers & rests

To strum or not to strum? That is the question

Adding Semiquavers

Adding more strums in-between the beats
